ART AND ILLUSTRATION has always interested me from my childhood days in England. As a youngster I collected cigarette cards, finely
detailed and illustrated collector cards from cigarette packages. Tobacco companies employed artists to illustrate the cards which covered
hundreds of subjects. They have become a collector's item for adults with a large following particularly in the U.K.

I emigrated to Montreal, Canada in 1958 and began painting, first in oil, then acrylic and a few in egg tempera. This eventually morphed into matting and framing art and the cards and marketing them via Gift Trade Shows in Toronto, Halifax, Edmonton and Vancouver.
Framed cigarette cards (tobacco cards) decorate many pubs in the U.K. and are used on the sets of the longest running TV show Coronation
Street.

In 1989 I moved to a small village along the Northumberland Straight in Nova Scotia and operated a custom framing business as well as continuing to exhibit in the Trade Shows which left little time to produce my own art.

I lost my wife in 2001, abandoned all framing activities until moving to Toronto (Newmarket) in 2004. These days I am back to producing my own
art although in a different genre, that of pencil drawing with and without watercolor embellishment. Time will tell whether I go back to, or include
acrylic and egg tempera.
